SCS SB 269 -- PUBLIC SAFETY LOCAL SALES TAX

SPONSOR: Quick (Willoughby)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Tax Policy by a vote of 16 to 0.

This substitute allows the City of Excelsior Springs to submit to
its voters a local sales tax for the purpose of funding public
safety.

The substitute contains an emergency clause.

FISCAL NOTE: Income to General Revenue Fund of $1,250 in FY
2004, $5,000 in FY 2005, and $5,000 in FY 2006.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the City of Excelsior Springs
needs additional moneys for public safety and would like the
option of raising those additional revenues through a local sales
tax dedicated for that purpose.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Quick.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
